The SUNCAT Center for Interface Science and Catalysis seeks to develop a fundamental understanding of the electronic and structural factors determining the catalytic properties of solid surfaces in thermal as well as electro chemical catalysis. To achieve this goal a close collaboration between efforts in electronic structure theory and experimental methods are needed and the knowledge gained will be used to develop models describing surface reactivity and expand our general understanding of heterogeneous catalysis. In pursuing these goals, the Center takes advantage of access to two centrally managed super computer clusters, advanced light sources and testing facilities at SLAC, and leading catalyst synthesis facilities at Stanford University.
